Successful gardeners know that there are certain conditions in which a healthy plants thrive. For starters, you need good soil. If the soil is rocky, weedy, or nutrient deficient, your plant will never produce a good crop. You need water and sunlight— but not too much or too little. Too much water makes a flood, and all sunshine makes a desert. The care of plants is no thoughtless task. In the same way, the care of souls requires even more attention. The Apostle Paul had this kind of care and attention for the believers in Ephesus, and like any good gardener—he wanted this church to thrive. As we study the first three chapters of Ephesians, we discover Paul’s wisdom on how to thrive in our true identity which is found in Christ Jesus.
